Österreichischer Lloyd continues its ownership expansion course.

Six newbuildings are scheduled to be delivered to the Österreichischer Lloyd between April 2008 and October 2009.

Highlight of this week was the christening of MCP VIENNA, MCP SALZBURG, MCP LINZ by Kristin Hammersen and Octavia Wurmböck, wives of ship owners - Capt. Eberhard Koch and Hans-Georg Wurmböck - and by Petra Niederle, PA to the Directors of Österreichischer Lloyd. The christening took place at Shandong Huanghai Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., Shidao Rongcheng, Shandong / China on 04th April, 2008.

The three sisterships are 3 hold/hatch 8.024 tdw container feeders with dimensions 117 m loa, 19,7 m beam under CCS Class. They carry 630 TEU (401 TEU a 14 tons) at a service speed of 15 knots.
The first ship, MCP VIENNA will be delivered on 20th April, 2008 and will sail under Cyprus flag. Simultaneously with the three sisters, another vessel MCP GOTEBURG was also christened the same day.

Building supervision of all newbuildings is effected by friendly owners Messrs. ISN Intership Navigation Co. Ltd. of Limassol.

Five of the container newbuildings will join the MCP Mini Container Pool Limassol, which eventually will contain all 27 sister newbuildings of this series, of which 16 vessels will be gearless and 11 vessels will be equipped with 2 x 40 tons cranes.
One newbuilding will join the existing MTL pool.

According to a statement from Capt. E. Koch, Managing Partner of Österreichischer Lloyd, the company will change its name in April 2008 to: Österreichischer Lloyd Seereederei, thereby reflecting the new focus of the company.
